Happy New Year (of the Dragon)!!!

I've been meaning to post something since the first day of this year but I was busy learning new things. I started practicing yoga around October of last year. I love kundalini yoga though I don't really mind trying other types like hatha and power yoga.

Another thing, am not fond of making new year's resolution so there's really no urgency to blog about it. hahaha. What am fond of, is trying new things. I love to learn and lately I am drawn to working out (believe me I've tried a lot in the past couple of months!), hypnosis and subliminal stuff. Really interesting. So much different from my what I would go gaga about when I was younger like makeup, shoes and french fries.

Anyway, Chinese New Year is fast approaching so let me greet everybody who's celebrating it: Xin Nian Kuai Le!!!! Based on net sources, that is how to say Happy New Year in Mandarin. Mandarin because my grandfather (mother side) who was from Amoy (now Xiamen), China was a Mandarin professor. I still hope to learn the language someday. :)

Honestly, I have great expectations this year. I hope that this year turns out to be mystical, interesting and powerful. It's the year of the dragon anyway!!!

Two Months and Counting

It's been two months since I started working out on a regular basis, 5-7 times a week! Hahahaha. I don't know what happened. I just woke up one day and I started cardio exercises. It's probably my baby's fault! He introduced me to Insanity. I did it for three weeks. My knees hurt so I stopped.

Now, I found what I love doing--pilates, yoga and little bit of ballet, zumba and hiphop. I can see the positive effects already. I feel good and I've lost inches!!! Wearing smaller sizes has been my motivation. Fortunately, am also vain (I'm proudly Leo, you know!) so looking good is my middle name (hahahaha). When it comes to diet, I started watching what I eat for real since Aug 1, 2010. I love the effect of wheatgrass (lost 10 lbs but I plateau-d after six months though) and now, barley juice (no more pms and truly a stress buster).

So well, happy monthsary to me!!!

Wonder Where

Here I am blogging again after a long time. A day or two away from the net seems an eternity anyway and it felt that I've been in hibernation for years! I just thought that am a few months away from October, a magical time for me since 2007, since I went to Boracay with my baby!

Things were great since then. Every October since, I've been traveling and surprises never end. The next year, I went back to Boracay and had a blast again although I was always wishing that friends and my baby could join in the fun.

The year after that, it's Iloilo and Guimaras. Wow! That was such an amazing trip. I've met really nice people, tasted fabulous food and even sneaked out from a busy press tour to meet with my friend, Z, who was billeted in a different hotel. Hahahaha. I learned that people somewhere out there remained nice and honest. The cab driver even attempted to give back a few pesos as change. What a pleasant surprise, right!

Last year was surreal! Again, my baby and I went on a trip. To Kota Kinabalu! We stayed in a five-star hotel on a golf package. Haahaha. I've never tried golf but my brother was generous enough to transfer his golf prize! And so, we didn't play golf but we sure had a good time. I've also tried AirAsia's service and I would have to say, that was one of the smoothest flights ever, comparable to SIA, I would say. No flowing white wine though! Hahahaha. It's a budget airline, what I do expect huh?

So I can't help but dream about this year's October. Morocco is an enticing thought but then this is a part of my travel life that I can't really predict, even a tinge. As always, I'll just sit and wait for the pleasant gift!

Senior Moments

Last month I attended a friend's 60th birthday party. Okay I have to admit, I didn't want to attend especially so that my mom can't come. Like, what would I do there and why did I get invited in the first place? What can we talk about? Crap!

But my friend kept calling that day so I went to the party anyway. Glad I did. I met some wonderful women in their golden years. And I would say, I see the person that I want to be when I grow up, or at least when I turn 60!

These are women who are still fabulous (!) not only because they look good for their age but more importantly because they've accomplished something. They had a career and cherish being a mom and lola (grandma) too. It was a blessing that some have rich and uber-supportive husbands as well. hahahahaha. Kidding aside, aside from enjoying their senior years, they are also nice and not a bit arrogant.

I noticed too that their conversations didn't include "tsismis" (gossip) about friends who weren't at the party or some other common friends. I didn't hear any bitterness in their stories especially about growing old. Instead, they enjoyed reminiscing about their younger days. Some guests were high school classmates, would you believe?

Some talked about the digital slot machines in their last Vegas trip. The other one was talking about her Indonesia trip. Still another, shared that she has a Facebook account and plays FB games as well. Yesss!

Am not fond of number 1. My favorite number actually is 5. So anyway, I made a wish at 1:11 pm on 1-11-11 and of course am hoping it comes true! Anyway, it's my brother's birthday today so we're having a party. That means there's delish food and there's an opportunity to dress up today.

I guess it's a lucky day after all.

First Wedding for the Year

We attended a friend's wedding yesterday in Tagaytay Highlands. My brother J, who was the best man left Manila Saturday and helped in the preparations for the destination wedding. My parents and I left Sunday morning at 9:20 AM. We arrived in Tagaytay around 11 AM, earlier than expected.

The SLEX drive was a breeze. When we arrived in Tagaytay, it was drizzling but we enjoyed the cold temp. Since we were on the groom side, we proceeded to his unit at Belle View West. My bro and the veil sponsor stayed there too. We had lunch, laughed, joked and helped in the preparation.

Photographers came in a few minutes later, the housekeeping staff (the wedding suit needed pressing), the wedding coordinator, the personal assistant. It was a busy day but we were all relaxed. The photographers offered to take some non-wedding pics so we even had fun pictorials while waiting for the groom to get dressed.

We all helped in tying the tie. I even kidded that next time, don't use an expensive one cos it takes a while to tie. hahahaha. We arrived at the church a few minutes before schedule. The wedding was at 3PM, cocktails at 4:30PM and reception at 6PM. There were 250 guests so Madre de Dios chapel was brimming!

We enjoyed the photo booth, food, ceremony, AVP (we had significant exposure!) and of course the company of good friends. There was fireworks display to cap the great event so literally it ended with a bang!

By 8:30PM, we were on our way to Manila. We arrived 10PM. Again, the drive was a breeze despite the zero visibility due to thick fog while traversing the winding roads of Tagaytay Highlands.

It was a super great day and I wish to attend more weddings like this, no stress just happy moments!

Busy First Week

What a way to start the year! Nanay and Tatay are invited to a wedding! Of course am styling for my mom. It's soooo NOT an easy task cos my mom doesn't like dressing up. In fairness to my mom, she didn't need too much dressing up since she is pretty. But just the same since it is a formal wedding and strictly invitational too, she HAD to dress up! hahaha.

And so we went to the mall to buy formal wear. Yesterday an iridescent cerise top with flared sleeves caught my fancy so we bought it. Then, we went to the mall again today to buy her a skirt.

My mom actually insisted on wearing pants instead but my dad didn't like the look so we had no choice but to look for something that would match the top.

Fortunately, we found this elegant floor-length skirt in mustard. The combination is interesting. I never thought that it would look fab (or my mom just looks good in any color). Dad is not complaining so I guess it's great.

Anyway, the wedding is this Sunday, the 9th. Am so excited.

Hello 2011!

Am looking forward to 2011 as 2010 had been a very good year for me. I have started cleaning my closet. Since am back to size S, the L sizes are gone (for good!). By first week of January, I will work out again (hello elliptical :)). Admittedly, I still need to lose another 10 lbs so hopefully by March, the remaining flabs are all gone too. I super-miss my size XS clothes and my 23.5 waistline. Since am not in my 20s anymore, I'd be happy with a 26. hahahaha.

Anyway, I don't have anything important to say except that I'd be more of a Virgo this 2011 (meaning I'll be organized) than a Leo (my party-going side). Wish me luck!

I heart Turkey

We went to our farm in Pangasinan last weekend to pick up Nanay and Tatay. They are spending Christmas and New Year here in Metro Manila. We left 7 in the evening Saturday. I just brought my DVF overnight bag of course (I travel light you know). I enjoyed the joyride, a smooth and hassle-free four-hour drive via SCTEX.

My Kuya was really a very good driver. Hahahahaha. And very generous too. We had dinner at KFC (order anything you want courtesy of my Kuya of course, no wonder he keeps getting richer!) and a couple of hours later we had late dinner (again!) at our farm (fried tilapia, adobong turkey (my mom cooks the best adobo) and ginisang munggo). Super-duper yummy!!!!!

We brought home more turkey here in the city. While waiting for the roast turkey, I had tinolang turkey (for lunch) and tomorrow I'll cook kalderetang turkey and... I hope you get the picture. It's turkey week!

Then I read some of the nasty comments sent to me a year ago. I never deleted them though it brings back bad memories every time. Good thing the universe has its way of putting things in its proper perspective.

Am glad the time has come. It is a truly amazing time.

A Better Turn

My social life now isn't as exciting as before but I prefer it this way. After all, am not a teenager anymore who's eager to seek attention or to belong to whatever. I am at that age and status where I don't need (or want) to please everybody to boost self esteem or be the center of attention. That's normal for "kids" but not for adults. Am just in a happy place and that is more than enough for me.

But...
though I have learned to become (a bit) tolerant, I am still "guilty" of being tactless. I abhor lies and I hate liars so I tell the truth most of the time.

And
sometimes, I indulge. I "compete" but only to piss people off when they have become too annoying. Hahahaha. I just love pissing "mayabang" or "super feeling" people. They deserve to get back what they give, a hundred times over. SO Beware!

For example, when you ask me if your baby is cute, I would ask back: "Do you want to hear the truth? Are you ready for the truth?" Please don't do this to me. If your kid is cute, people will take notice. Gets????? And please don't force me to lie because I don't want to hurt you. Peace!!!!

Am just bored playing too much FB games so I can't really blog about anything sensible. Hahahaha. That is the plain truth.

Some people just don't get it. Before you can take responsibility for others, you must take responsibility for yourself. Wala lang. I just thought about it after a not-so-good incident happened.

Am not going into details here but I'll vent anyway. Well, some people think that their relatives or friends will just pop out of nowhere to lend them a helping hand. It can happen, once, twice but you can't do that forever. DUH!

Am not being negative here, just pointing out the obvious. It's not bad to have debts, what's bad is to make other people responsible in paying them. It will catch up on you, believe me. Sooner rather than later.

Been busy for the last couple of months especially around Christmas. My mother's side of the family had a reunion at our house here in the city. It was well attended of course. My mom is the only one among her siblings who can throw a party like that even in the shortest of notice. The only ones who weren't in attendance were her siblings from Cebu and San Francisco for obvious reasons. Our family reunion is an annual affair, usually potluck so there are lots of food on the table, enough to feed more than ten families. Now don't ask me how those ten families were able to fit in our small house. I wonder too. hahahaha

It's been a blessed year for our family, the whole clan for that matter that's why the party was also sort of a thanksgiving event. I cooked turkey kaldereta and my dad cooked "papaitan" due to insistent public demand :). Darling brought lechon. Tito Benny's share was waknatoy (Marikeño specialty). The food fare also included rellenong bangus, sweet and sour lapu lapu, ice cream, fruits, adobo, kilawin tanigue (for the silent boys), leche flan, organic carbonara and more. We also had a raffle for the "senior" women. It was fun so we decided to hold a bigger raffle next year. Gifts and money were given away to kids and oldies alike. hahahaha.

Christmas is really about the family and am thankful that mine is a good one. Having a very nice bf is a bonus too. Hi baby! I love you. And of course real friends as well!

Still Setting Up

Can't believe it! More than two months after Ondoy visited Metro Manila, here I am still cleaning and organizing. There's very little accomplishment. At least, I was able to dispose my desktop so my big narra table is now exclusively for my laptop. Actually, since it's so big, I can buy one more comp and it would fit just right. But then, I will have to wait for the big sale early next year.

It's really a manic Monday for me. My mom will arrive soon and am sure she will complain on the current state of our house. Hahahahaha. "You're my only daughter and I expect you to at least clean the house, blah blah blah." Well Mom, you're still in denial. AM NOT DOMESTIC! ahahaha I fixed the clogged sink, isn't that enough? And look at our cat, Ching Ching, she's so fat courtesy of Whiskas and Friskies. And the plants still have leaves.

But for the sake of making my Mom happy, am cleaning the house with the aid of my brand new vacuum. Yes! I just want to brag. hahahahha. Gosh am laughing a lot these days, probably because of the season.

Holiday season after all gives me the excuse to shop. I recently went to a toy warehouse where they sell Barbie, v-tech, tonka and other items. My excuse was, I need to shop for gifts for my inaanaks (godchildren). But since they are by now old for Barbies, I just bought dolls for myself. hahahahaha. I now have 3 Barbies! Am sure Pau, my niece, would brag that she has more, she can't keep track how many. And she's not even 4! Well Pau, I never had a Barbie when I was a kid so it's about time I start collecting, right? Now if only my other niece, Tin, would return my Swiss Barbie...hmmmm but that is wishful thinking.

Anyway, I have 3 more articles to write for the newspaper before I call it a year. Good thing I have already wrapped some gifts. And then there's more shopping to do. I should better be going. Till next!

I Saw The Sun

Finally, I was able to enjoy the sun today. Usually I wake up after lunch but today I got up just a little after 10am! And the weather is really nice. Sunny, bright and so inspiring.

I plan to shop today after finishing some assignments so I checked my credit card balance. Wooohooo, there's plenty in there too. Just how lucky can a woman get? Hahahahaha.

The Easiest Breakup!

Yesterday was a memorable day. I ended a complicated relationship which in hindsight shouldn't have lasted that long. My acupuncturist was right after all, I have high tolerance for pain. And I would admit complaining is something that I enjoy to a certain extent. Hahahaha.

We had a love-hate relationship. We had periodic arguments. Most of the time, I would compromise and give it another chance. But when the universe keeps on showing signs and you fail to see it, it will put you in a situation where you'd finally realize that things had to end.

And so Ondoy came and as what the universe had long wanted finally happened. I knew this relationship is not working anymore. In fairness, we've had good times. It was surprisingly easy though. Letting go can actually be a good thing.

Good riddance!

Such a great day. Today is our 1,000th daysary! Since my baby can't be here to celebrate this special day with me, I decided to go out and have a good time anyway. After my hectic sked in Iloilo/Guimaras last weekend where I was part of the media fam tour, I thought I need a massage once I get back to Manila.

Like an answered prayer, my soul sister, Z, treated me to a massage. And since diamond peel is too hard to resist I also had the treatment. The P2,000 price tag is super sulit since the package includes a facial and some anti-aging treatments. Anyway, it's not everyday that you get a diamond peel right? We had the treatment at Emerald Skin Care Center in Ortigas.

After the pampering session, we headed to SM Megamall for a Vietnamese dinner. The Vermicelli small bowl is good for two already, at least for me and my friend since we're trying to eat healthy and maintain our ideal weight. Incidentally, Z's balikbayan box has arrived and she shared a can of Albacore with me. Next week, she'll give me a bottle of blueberries too. Yipeee!

We had a real nice time.

A Fresh New Cycle

I woke up with a headache today. I slept past 7am and somebody was at the door around 11:30am. Arrrrrgh. Can't people just leave me alone for just a few hours? I went back to bed after a few minutes and tried to get a much deserved rest and what do you know a few hours later, somebody was at the door again.

So well, I got up around 3pm with a headache so I wasn't able to go out and shop. I need new things (for work!) cos am going out of town next weekend and I got nothing new to wear. Okay it may be vanity but I deserve some good things you know cos I worked hard to get everything that I have.

Anyway, headache or not, it's time to start a new cycle in my life. At least that was what my horoscope says hahahahaha. And what better way to do it than shop and travel.

Am So Excited!

Almost three weeks after typhoon Ondoy turned my life around, I was finally able to hire people to clean my house. A day is not enough though so they'll be back this Sunday to finish the job.

While the cleaning ladies were busy disinfecting and polishing my room, I went out for coffee with a friend and talked about anything from the recent "flood and mud" experience to latest gadgets to bags!

Since the start of this month, things have been happening so fast, for the better of course. Things are finally falling into place after more than two years of waiting. I will discuss these "things" later.

Anyway, what am so excited about is shopping which I hope I can do this weekend. Okay, what are included in the list? Hmmmm...netbook, shoes, clothes, shoes, hdd, shoes... hahahaha. Next month, it will be all about BAGS (waiting for somebody from the US to bring it in)!!!!!

I know I haven't blogged in a while. I've been busy with work. One contract ended and got a new one in a matter of two weeks. It's great cos I can't afford NOT to have a job. I don't like the thought of bills piling up and I have a lot. Hahahahaha.

I just finished cleaning the house and it was super tiring. So while scrubbing the bathroom tiles I thought why not just get a cleaning lady, twice a week. That I can afford.

This was the second time that I had a plane dream in a matter of days. The first time, it didn't take off because of engine problems which was a good thing. The second one though was not so good. It didn't take off because of my excess baggage (hahahahahaha). I tried to explain, after all I only brought two medium-size bags. My friend, Ren, was in the dream too and she told me that it may not be the excess baggage that's keeping the plane on the ground. She said that it happened because it's Friday.

Good Friday was literally a good day for me because I took time off from work. Am not really sure where I spent it last year. Probably in my parent's farm in Pangasinan. I know we didn't go swimming. Hmmmmmm...maybe I just had a relaxing time.

Anyway, this year I just stayed home, here in the city, with my Mom. She was hospitalized last month when she got hypertensive. We stayed in the hospital for two days and I paid 300 (there's privilege for seniors in our city). It seems that our taxes are working for us.

Am back to work again and super happy. I love working. It gives me value or worth, something to do.

To Help or Not...

It's nice when people come to you for advice or help on matters, be it trivial or serious stuffs. As a writer, friends would turn to me when they need help on writing something which is ok if I have free time anyway. But sometimes, it gets annoying when people would simply ask you to do it for them because they think you're the "right" person to do it. It's flattering yes, but annoying too. What I do to not offend is to refer them to the internet saying that "you can get inspiration from there so you can come up with your own version". Some will do that but most would even ask you to get online and look for it and just send them the link. Some would ask you to summarize it for them and just send it through email. Or worse, they will tell you that the info you sent them was not enough and you need to look for more. The nerve!

There is a difference between helping and nurturing other people's laziness. Am sorry am not going to let you do that to me. If you want help, I can extend my hand but you have to be responsible for yourself.

I just talked to Mench (not her real name of course) who was "abandoned" by her husband for another woman. I just finished boiling rice and heating corned beef when I ran out of LPG. After 4 months and 18 days, I needed to replace my 15-kg Shellane. Last time I paid P630 for it, now, since gas prices have significantly gone down, I only paid P480. Call me odd but I feel some kind of fulfillment being able to pay for something, like all my other bills. Anyway, I was thankful that am done cooking lunch before it happened. I needed to wait an hour before the delivery guy arrived. Whew!!!

I may go out tomorrow. I need a breath of fresh air. Hahahaha. I need to eat out, go to the grocery and replenish my yogurt supply. Aaaargh. I want to buy fruits and vegetables too and ingredients for pesto. I guess it's time I treat myself.

I just had a nice conversation with a friend. We talked about our other friends and general stuffs, like, how some people have this tendency to deny something that is actually just in front of them, how they cannot see a lot of things, etc.

Singles Retreat

I just got back from a three-day retreat held at Chateau Royale Nasugbu, Batangas. It was the 4th Singles Retreat by CCF (Christ Commission Fellowship) and this year they had 940 single participants. It was an activity-filled retreat, not what I expected, but I enjoyed the experience.

My friend Julie invited me last minute to join because somebody backed out. Well, am glad I said yes. I met nice people. My roommates were all nice. The speakers were all good. It was a fitting way of ending a very good month. I hope this month is even better.

Rice Vs Big Mac

I can't believe how much I missed eating rice. Yesterday, I just had coffee for breakfast, went to the bank to pay my mortgage and then got a Big Mac and fries from McDonalds. The Big Mac was too big for me so it lasted till dinner. Hahahaha. Anyway, it was good. Loved the cheese. Loved the fries.

Today I had corned beef and rice for lunch. My, my, it tastes better than the Big Mac. Anytime, I'll choose rice over burger. Guess am as Pinoy as eating rice and am so proud of it.

My main reason of going to Manila today was to attend an editorial meeting for the newspaper that am writing for. Since Manila is kinda far from my place, I accepted an assignment in the morning to make the most of my trip there. I attended a lunch-presscon at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila (formerly known as Westin Philippine Plaza) announcing the Philippines' hosting of the 4th World Health Tourism Congress on March 2009. This is a feat cos the Philippines is the first Asian country to host the said event, after Germany, Cyprus and Spain.

The editorial meeting was postponed but there was a mini-raffle held for the members of the press and I won a LeSpa signature massage of my choice at Sofitel.

Am not so lucky when it comes to raffle or games of chance. Usually, I will get a prize only when there's enough for everyone. Hahahaha. Well, things have changed and this one is for the better. Must by my lucky day!

Beating the Deadline

It's past noon and the only thing I've written is half a paragraph. My writing assignments this week are up to my neck. I only finished 10 articles in the past week, how lame is that. This week, there are 21 assignments and I plan to finish all of it by Wednesday. I want to go out of town or attend more presscons or even meet with friends.

Am distracted though. I am catching up with my favorite tv series. I spent two days watching episodes that I missed. So far am updated only in Gossip Girl, csi Miami and Merlin series. There are more to catch up though: csi, csi NY, Desperate Housewives, True Blood, Fringe (I love this series!), Dexter, Privileged, 90210, House, The Mentalist plus the more than 50 movies (or it now stands at 100?) lined up for me to see.

I'll work a little and play a lot. Am feeling xmas-sy, after all.

Another Good Month

My bills came in last week of last month. Before I left for Pangasinan for my father's 65th birthday celebration last November 1 (his birthday is Nov 3), I already checked on my Meralco and internet bill. I was surprised to get another rebate from my ISP. And my power consumption was one of the lowest this year.

Things are looking good, probably a continuation of last month's. Am not complaining.

I know I know. You may be wondering where I've been. I haven't posted anything for days. Well I thought I needed to visit a spa so I went to Boracay Regency's Kai Regency Spa (Oct 23-25) to get a facial and their signature massage.

What a life. It's very good.

I promised to post pics from my recent trip to Isabela, Ifugao and Cagayan. And now, I need to upload Boracay pics as well. Whew! Am I busy or what? Hahahaha. Am not complaining.

Back in the City

I just got back from a five-day media tour up north, Isabela-Ifugao-Cagayan. Thank you to NCCA for the invite to the Timpuyog Festival held in Santiago City in Isabela and the very nice side trip to Callao Caves in Cagayan. Thank you to the Lumauigs for hosting the lunch at their Rancho Diego in Ifugao. Thank you to JP Domingo for the lecture about IPs and churches, very enlightening, sir.

The schedule was hectic but I enjoyed it a lot. The rice wine (tapuy) was fabulous. I just wish I had more hahahaha. The 11 PM dinner hosted by Mor'o Ocampo at Tiago's was great as well. How I can I forget the spicy Kung Pao pasta, spicy fish fillet, spicy barbecue chicken, spicy everything. LOL.

I was roused from my sleep when I heard somebody call my name. My first bill for October just got delivered. It was for my DSL. Wow, what a way to greet Monday, huh!

I opened the envelope immediately. I get excited whenever I get bills. LOL.

Anyway, I soon found out that I got another round of rebate, they call it Outage Rebate, for the months of August and September. Such a pleasant surprise, am just paying half of my bill. Yipeeeee!!!!!
