It's a Catholic thing. Growing up as one, with a mother devout to Mary, I have fond memories of fiesta. In our place, it happens every 18th of Sept until recently when it was moved to 22nd of the same month, the right feast day of Sto. Tomas de Villanueva, patron saint of the poor.
Am not a religious person but I remember my mother inviting the poor to lunch at our small house during fiesta. My mother is a generous woman. And I learned that generosity is not exclusive to rich people. (Yeah yeah, you don't have to be rich to be able share!)
I wish I can have a little of my mom's selflessness. Maybe, I'm too independent that all I can think about is how to work and support myself. Someday, I'll do something good.
