When I was in high school, I'd be described as:
In social situations, a wallflower is a slang term used to describe shy or unpopular individuals who do not socialize or participate in activities at social events. It is most often used to describe someone who stays close to a wall and out of the main area of social activity.
Hahahaha. Yes, a wallflower. Ordinary and very common. I was never first in the honor roll though I wasn't lacking in the IQ department (ehem!). I don't hate school but I don't exactly love competing with nerds. For me, studies were a part of socialization and a tool to better prepare you for a "competitive" if not "tough" future.
When I graduated from college, I was lucky enough to use my Journalism degree by being part of the editorial. It was by far the most memorable job that I had. Exciting, challenging, one that I wouldn't complain about because it opened new doors for me, not only as far as my talent goes but also and more importantly on how I bloomed and overcome my being a wallflower.
I met people ordinary employees wouldn't meet in their entire career. In the process, I would admit I became desensitized.
When I moved to a more "relaxing" environment such as "corporate", I was introduced to a totally different aspect of what they call "job". There was not a tinge of pressure that an editorial job presented which was what exactly I was hoping to experience, hence, the shift. And so, I learned that complacency can even earn you good money (to a certain extent) and that people in the higher ups were just as annoying as my previous employers (they think they know better).
Now am rethinking my options, putting things in perspective as to where am heading next. Is it time to retire? Start writing a book? Have a family and be a "desperate housewife"? That last part, by the way, means another exciting page in being a woman (who am I kidding, hahahaha). Go watch the series dummy if you don't understand. :-)
Am just certain of one thing, that as far as my career goes, I'd be writing for as long as I can.
The rest of my exciting life am throwing back to the universe and just wait for things to unfold. Life is full of pleasant surprises anyway. I'll take that.
